Polina Zioga and the Digital Design Studio (DDS) of The Glasgow School of Art present ’Enheduanna – A Manifesto of Falling’, a new innovative performance, with actress Anastasia Katsinavaki, and composer Minas Borboudakis.

This international production is the result of Polina Zioga’s doctoral research on brain-computer interfaces that provide the brain with a non-muscular channel for communicating with the external world. The real-time brain-activity of a performer and the audience controls the live audio-visual projections and the atmosphere of the theatrical stage, which functions as an allegory of the social stage.

The performance explores the life and work of Enheduanna (ca. 2285-2250 B.C.E.), an Akkadian Princess, the first documented High Priestess of the deity of the Moon Nanna in the city of Ur (present-day Iraq), who is regarded as possibly the first known author and poet in the history of human civilisation, regardless of gender.

In her most known work, ‘The Exaltation of Inanna’, Enheduanna describes the political conditions under which she was removed from high office and sent into exile. She speaks about the ‘city’, power, crisis, falling, and the need for rehabilitation. Her poetry is used as a starting point for a conversation with the work of contemporary writers that investigate the notions of citizenry, personal and social illness, within the present-day international, social and political context of democracy.

The project has been realised in the GSA Digital Design Studio, in collaboration with the School of Psychology of The University of Glasgow, the School of Art, Design and Architecture of the University Of Huddersfield, and with the support of the NEON Organization, CCA, MyndPlay and the GSA Students’ Association.

Performed in English, Greek, and French with English supertitles.

Η Πωλίνα Ζιώγα και το Digital Design Studio (DDS) του Glasgow School of Art παρουσιάζουν την ’Enheduanna – A Manifesto of Falling’, μια νέα καινοτόμα περφόρμανς, με την ηθοποιό Αναστασία Κατσιναβάκη, και τον συνθέτη Μηνά Μπορμπουδάκη.

Αυτή η διεθνής παραγωγή είναι αποτέλεσμα της διδακτορικής έρευνας της Πωλίνας Ζιώγα στα συστήματα διεπαφής εγκεφάλου-υπολογιστή (brain-computer interfaces), που παρέχουν στον εγκέφαλο ένα μη-μυϊκό κανάλι για επικοινωνία με τον εξωτερικό κόσμο. H εγκεφαλική δραστηριότητα σε πραγματικό χρόνο ενός περφόρμερ και του κοινού ελέγχουν τις ζωντανές οπτικοακουστικές προβολές και την ατμόσφαιρα της θεατρικής σκηνής, που λειτουργεί ως αλληγορία της κοινωνικής σκηνής.

Η περφόρμανς διερευνά τη ζωή και το έργο της Enheduanna (περίπου 2285-2250 π.Χ.), πριγκίπισσας των Ακκαβαίων, της πρώτης καταγεγραμμένης Πρωθιέρειας της θεότητας της Σελήνης Nanna στην πόλη Ur (σημερινό Ιράκ), που θεωρείται ως, πιθανόν, η πρώτη συγγραφέας και ποιήτρια, που γνωρίζουμε στην ιστορία του ανθρωπότητας, ανεξαρτήτου φύλου.

Στο πιο γνωστό έργο της, ‘Η Εξορία της Inanna’, η Enheduanna περιγράφει τις πολιτικές συνθήκες κάτω από τις οποίες καθαιρέθηκε από το υψηλό της αξίωμα και εξορίστηκε. Μιλάει για την ‘πόλη’, την εξουσία, την κρίση, την πτώση, και την ανάγκη για αποκατάσταση. Η ποίησή της χρησιμοποιείται ως αφετηρία για ένα διάλογο με το έργο σύγχρονων συγγραφέων που διερευνούν τις έννοιες της ταυτότητας του πολίτη, της προσωπικής και κοινωνικής ασθένειας, μέσα στο σημερινό διεθνές, κοινωνικό και πολιτικό πλαίσιο της δημοκρατίας.

Το project υλοποιήθηκε στο GSA Digital Design Studio, σε συνεργασία με το School of Psychology του University of Glasgow, το School of Art, Design and Architecture του University of Huddersfield, και την υποστήριξη του Οργανισμού NEON, του CCA, της MyndPlay και του GSA Student’s Association.
